English Language and Literature

Whether you love fiction, autobiographies, poems, plays, newspapers or creative writing, English Language and Literature is the subject for anyone who loves stories. You’ll explore a variety of texts whilst discovering how Language and Literature has been used to challenge social, historical and political stances. 

What will I study?

There are five parts to A-Level Language and Literature. You will study:

  • Remembered Places – Paris Collection
  • Imagined Worlds – The Handmaid’s Tale 
  • Poetic Voices – Carol Ann Duffy
  • Society – The Kite Runner
  • Dramatic Encounters – A Streetcar Named Desire.

What can I do with A-Level English Language and Literature?

You will become a creative thinker with evaluative, argumentative and analytical skills. People who study English enjoy a wide spectrum of university and career options in the future including: Literature; Language; Creative Writing; Forensics; History; Politics; Journalism and many others.
