Subject Information

Applied science allows you to study aspects of all 3 main science disciplines: biology, chemistry and physics in one course.You will develop skills using a broad range of precision laboratory equipment and techniques through career-related contexts.You will experience first hand how scientists use research, investigation and experiment to explore and develop scientific ideas and products.

What will I study?

Unit 1 – Core theory in biology, chemistry and physics (exam)

Unit 2 – Experimental techniques (assessed practicals and reports)

Unit 3 – Investigation skills (assessed practical with exam component)

Unit 4 – Anatomy and physiology (research and report)

What can I do with BTEC Applied Science?

BTEC Applied Science equips students with science skills and knowledge to begin a career in specialist labs covering anything from forensics to brewing and distilling to health care analysis. It could provide an alternate route to many higher education courses in science.
