What was your experience of Sixth Form lessons?
Sixth Form was brilliant, the lessons were so focused which helped make a brilliant learning environment. The teachers were so supportive and my favourite thing from the lessons was the close support we received. The teachers went above and beyond and always wanted to help. Sixth Form was a lot more intense in terms of workload but manageable with spaced learning and repetition.
How was your experience of studying the EPQ?
An EPQ was the opportunity for me to research and develop my interest in net zero targets and new low carbon technology. I chose to research carbon capture and its efficiency to help reach Net Zero. The EPQ was an amazing experience, it helped to develop research and critical analysis skills which is a help to me at university. This helped me to secure my place at Sheffield University as they lowered my entry requirements.
How was your Thomas Paine Sixth Form social experience?
The Sixth Form, due to its small size, allowed for everyone to know each other and become friends. The whole Sixth Form was very friendly and allowed for an enjoyable experience. It felt a lot better than high school as everyone was like-minded and enjoyed their experience. It has a real community feel and everyone was welcoming. The Sixth Form Sports Day was brilliant.
What support did you receive at Thomas Paine Sixth Form?
I think the support was brilliant. I struggled with the A-Level options as I was not decided on my future career nor university course. They were always happy to help and gave expert advice.
How have you developed personally as a Thomas Paine Student?
As Sixth Formers, we were given our independence with work but the teachers were very helpful and willing to help us whenever. I improved on my critical research and analysis skills as well as time management.
What information and guidance were you given regarding further education and opportunities after Sixth Form?
The guidance was very good, the Sixth Form staff were experts, and we had tailored university sessions. In addition, we had full support with applications, the team were amazing.
What leadership opportunities did you take part in at Sixth Form?
My leadership developed through the organisation of a charity cycle event which helped with organisation and leadership skills. I organised the environment and marine awareness week assemblies for the whole school as well.
What super-curricular experiences did you take part in at Sixth Form?
The super-curricular events I took part in include the Operation Wallacea ecological expedition. This developed my research skills in the physical environment and ecosystems on the opposite side of the world.
Do you have any highlights from your time at Thomas Paine Sixth Form?
My highlights include the murder mystery night! I will miss the close supportive environment and community atmosphere.
What are your plans for the future?
I am going to The University of Sheffield to study Geography. I am looking to do a masters in Natural Hazards and then a doctorate overseas. I would like to work in the natural hazard research sector.
